Chimpanzees

Mahale Mountains National Park, Tanzania

Chimpanzees are humankind’s closest living relatives, sharing around 99% of our DNA as well as similar behaviors.  The chimps of Mahale Mountains National Park are habituated to people due to the presence of a research center.  It is difficult to visit the park, located in a remote area along the shores of Lake Tanganyika which can only be reached by boat crossing, often in choppy waters.
