Parts of the Gobi desert can be surprisingly lush after the rains. Gers, traditional nomadic homes, may be seen here at the foothills of the Gobi Altai mountains. There are often separate gers for families and storage, which can be dismantled then reassembled when herders and their flocks move to better pastures.
