A pied kingfisher perches on a branch overhanging the Rufigi River while a wire-tailed swallow nests in the tree hollow. The Rufigi River flows through Nyerere National Park, named after the first President of Tanzania, Julius Nyerere. Nyerere National Park, formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve, is Tanzania’s largest national park.
