The Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo lie close to the border with Uganda. Volcanic mountains of the Virungas, which span Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, can be seen from the lake area. The Virungas are home to endangered mountain gorillas.
